Bydd Plas Heli yn agor yn ystod Haf 2015 a bydd yn ganolfan o ragoriaeth hwylio rhanbarthol, cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol i Gymru. Mae prosiect yr Academi Hwylio Cenedlaethol Cymru a Chanolfan Ddigwyddiadau ym Mhwllheli wedi ei ariannu’n rhannol gan Gronfa Ddatblygu Rhanbarthol Ewrop drwy Lywodraeth Cymru a Chyngor Gwynedd. Fel rhan o hyn mae Plas Heli ynghyd a cleientiaid Cyngor Gwynedd, noddwyr Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru, a phenseiri EWA wedi apwyntio celf cyhoeddus gydweithiol Atoll i ddatblygu cyfleoedd i  greu cyfres o gomisiynau wedi eu seilio ar olau a goleuo i’r adeilad, a fydd hefyd yn adlewyrchu cyfryngau celfyddodol o fapio dafluniadol gan ddefnyddio goleuo, technoleg digidol a chreadigol, ffilm, fideo neu gelfyddydau gweledol. Gobeithir bydd gwaith o’r fath yn alinio i raglen ehangach sy’n cael ei gynllunio gan UNESCO yn 2015 (IYL 2015) sef Blwyddyn Rhyngwladol Golau a Thechnoleg wei’u seilio ar Olau.

PlasHeli is due to open in summer 2015 and will be a new regional, national and international centre of excellence for sailing in Wales. The National Sailing Academy and Events Centre project is part funded by the European Regional Developmewnt Fund through Welsh Government and Gwynedd Council. As part of this, Plas Heli along with clients Gwynedd Council, funders Arts Council of Wales, and architects EWA have appointed public art collaborative Atoll to develop opportunities for a series of light based art commissions for the building, and which look to exploit the artistic medias of projection mapping using lighting, digital and creative technology, film, video or optical arts. It is hoped that such work might be somehow aligned to the wider engagement programme of the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies being planned by UNESCO in 2015 (IYL 2015).

Gwelir bydd y gwaith celf yma, o answadd ysbrydoledig fydd yn ehangu gwaith pensaerniol newydd yr Academi newydd, ac hefyd yn denu sylw y gymuned leol ac ymwelwyr fel ei gilydd.  Fe’i gwelir fel gosodiadau parhaol ond eto ysbeidiol, fydd yn gymorth i sefydlu pwysigrwydd strategol yr acadami newydd ddynamig yma ac i ysbrydoli cenhedlaeth newydd o forwyr rasio o’r safon uchaf. Bydd angen i’r gwaith gyfrannu‘n sylweddol at ddatblygiad twrsistiaeth diwylliannol Pen Llyn a Bae Ceredigion. Mae‘r ardal o amgylch Pwllheli wedi ei nodi fel Ardal o Harddwch Naturiol Eithriadol.

These future artworks are seen as being of an inspirational quality to enhance the stunning new architectural context of Plas Heli, whilst also engaging with both local community and visitor alike. They are seen as being largely permanent yet intermittent installations, which can help flag the strategic importance of this dynamic new academy and inspire a new generation of world class racing sailors. The work also needs to contribute significantly to the rapidly expanding cultural tourism offer of the wider Llŷn Peninsula and Cardigan Bay. The area around Pwllheli is located adjacent to a classified  Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Gobeithir bydd y technoleg a ddefnyddir yn gorgyffwrdd i‘w defnyddio mewn mannau eraill, gan gynnwys defnyddiau ymarferol (tafluniad ffilm a fideo, goleuo perfformio a dangos y ffordd) a defnyddiau cymunedol (addysg, dehongliadau, ac apps digidol a gemau.)  Byddai’n bosibl cynnwys pethau fel technoleg cynaliadwy ac egni adnewyddadwy, yn ogystal a chyfryngau newydd sy’n gysylltiedig a phethau fel y tywydd, gps lleoli a hwylio. Byddwn yn croesawu defnyddio celfyddyd rhyngweithiol gan ddefnyddio pethau fel Arduino, Max/MSP a Kinect.

Technology utilised is hoped might potentially overlap into other alternative uses, including practical (video and film projection, performative lighting and wayfinding) and community uses (education, interpretation and digital Apps & gaming). Other overlaps could include such things as sustainable technologies and renewable energy, as well as other new media linked to such things as weather, positional gps and sailing. The utilisation of interactive and immersive arts using open-source electronics platforms like Arduino, Max/MSP and Kinect would also be welcome.
